Lemony Fresh Body Scrub

Last year, in a desperate attempt to convince the bf that there was no need for me to go back to work after Little E was born, I tried being more resourceful with the items we had in our house. This led mostly to homemade cleaners and bath products. Body scrubs to be exact. I have a friend who went the other way and uses the best stuff they can buy (and spends ages looking up Aspect Dr reviews and similar products), and while I would love to be in that same boat my efforts have borne a beautiful thing for my own skincare routine.

There are a whole lotta recipes out there if you’re looking! Like beyond a crapload. They all follow more or less the same basic recipe. Something abrasive, something oily and something smelly – good smelly.

I’ve experimented with a few and have a couple of go to’s, one of which I’m gonna share today!

Lemony Fresh Body Scrub

1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup cold pressed Grapeseed oil
1/4 cup coconut oil
7 drops of Lemon Essential Oil
Zest of 1 Lemon

Melt the coconut oil just enough to liquefy. Mix in the rest of the ingredients and stir until incorporated.

Transfer to container of your choice (Mason jars for me) and voilà!

This recipe filled a 250g wide mouth jar and a 125g decorative jar. I keep the small one by our kitchen sink to help with those crazy dry dishwashing hands & the larger one in the shower to combat dry winter skin.

You may find that you feel oily once you step out of the shower, but just pat the water off and massage the oil into your skin, you won’t regret it!

I prefer the Grapeseed oil because I find it gives off less of an “oily” smell that you sometimes get with olive oil. It works GREAT as a moisturizer, especially when combined with the coconut oil. You can easily substitute the lemon oil and lemon rind for orange or even grapefruit, depending on your scent preference.

I whipped up a quick label on the computer & stuck it on the lid. I finished it off with a white spray painted closure and boom – there you have it! Simple, pretty & dirt cheap.

Obviously not dirt cheap enough though, I’m still working!
