A few weeks ago I found this vintage school desk & chair at a garage sale. Despite some markings on the top of the desk, both were in great shape! I keep finding that more often than not I’m drawn to more vintage items. It’s pretty out of the norm for me, if I had to describe my style and taste it would lean more towards contemporary, yet cottage, with maybe a touch of industrial. Broad range, I know!
It must be my inner Laura Ingalls Wilder coming out, ha!
Here’s what I started with:
Nothing a few coats of paint can’t fix, right?
I must say, I am completely in love with Napoleonic Blue by Annie Sloan! It is definitely my favourite blue. I sanded the desk prior to painting it just to even out some of the Knicks that were in the legs and on the top. There are still a couple of knicks in the top, but I think it lends itself to the character of the desk.
I painted the bottom with 3 coats of the Napoleonic Blue and once dried, sealed it with Annie Sloan clear wax. 2 coats of Minwax stain in Provençial went on the top to give it that beautiful deep brown colour. I sealed it with two coats of Polyurethane. I can’t say enough how much I love this colour combo! I’m thinking there may be a furniture makeover in one of the boys rooms just to satisfy my need to see more!
A few quick coats of Krylon’s Dual Bond spray paint in Black Satin gave the little chair the perfect uplifting it needed.

I haven’t yet painted in this color of Annie Sloan, but now feel very inspired to do so! Great restoration of this classic piece.
