I’ve been going through a creative slump lately. It’s the truth. Although most days my mind feels like it’s going to explode with the ideas that are popping into it, my heart just hasn’t been in it. My creative mojo has been on vacation I think.
Does that ever happen to you? Sometimes life gets in the way and keeps you busier than you expected it to. All those ideas just sit, all the craft supplies, paints, and furniture – well, they wait. And then some days you glance at some random little bag of wood craft cubes and the Budweiser Red Light goes off in all it’s glory (if you’re a Canadian, beer drinking, hockey fan, you’ll get what I mean).
Those are them. 36 mini cubes all for a whopping $1.25. Who knew they could be so inspiring! My first thought was to spray paint them and make a monogram for Ellie’s room, but blah. No room for blah today. With two packs to work with I painted one pack with Americana Decor Maxx Gloss in Juicy Melon & the other with Martha Stewart Gold craft paint.
With a geometric look in mind I opted to paint half the cube, cutting diagonal from corner to corner instead of straight across. Although it may seem time-consuming it only took 2 episodes of Peppa Pig on Netflix to complete, so it really wasn’t that bad! Please tell me that there is someone else out there that bases time spent crafting on TV episodes or movies watched?!!
I had an 11×11 IKEA shadow box frame that was sitting around collecting dust, so I cut a piece of white cardstock down to fit it and started playing around with the painted cubes. Can you guess what I ended up going with?
I hope that wasn’t too predictable. I mean, a heart or a monogram, right? Once they were all layed out and centered on my paper I glued each one down with some hot glue. Some double-sided tape to make sure my cardstock stayed in place on the back of the frame and it was ready to go!
It adds the perfect pop of color In Ellie’s room and truthfully is a heart not timeless?!
