So, not sure about you guys but we had quite an eventful weekend! We woke up bright and early on Saturday morning to news that our neighbourhood was hit by vandals (aka little pukes) and then to the further discovery that Eric’s truck was stolen. It was all kinds of awesomeness. Puke. Thankfully we’re insured through a pretty great company (haha) and they found the damn thing stuck in an alley on the other side of town that same evening. It was probably the worlds longest 12 hours of both of our lives. Sunday was spent searching the area the truck was found for the keys. They, unfortunately, did not turn up. Tucker thought it was fun for all of 5 minutes then couldn’t stop asking when we were going to be done our ‘investigation’. Hardy Boy he is not!
Once we slowed down a bit I was able to divert some attention to my latest mini makeover. A couple of my good work friends were married last summer and they had this awesome frame that they used at each of their weddings. I did the lettering for Jaime’s wedding with the condition that I was able to keep the frame when she was finished with it. It was nice and big and had no business being in the trash! I spray painted it for her and gave the cardboard backing a fresh coat of chalkboard paint before taking some chalk markers to it.
I removed the cardboard and cut an extra piece of plywood I had down to size. I was lazy and didn’t feel like running out anywhere so I used some wood filler and a putty knife to fill in some of the larger grooves and holes.
Once it was dried I sanded it down until it was nice and smooth and then gave it 3 coats of Rustoleum Chalkboard Paint. A quick sand with a 400 grit sanding block and it was ready for the frame! The frame was made over with 3 coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Florence. Once everything was dried I used my staple gun to secure the chalkboard onto the frame. There were already two screws on either side of the frame so I took some hanging wire and wrapped it around both in order to allow it to hang.
My original plan was hang it in our living room, but after some playing around it just didn’t seem to fit the space. Where did it end up? In our back entry!
Although ‘back entry’ makes it sound hidden, it really isn’t. With the layout of our home we walk by this area 100+ times a day. You can see it coming in from the garage, walking downstairs, heading upstairs and well, you get it. So in the wake of recent events, it’s in the perfect spot to remind us 100+ a day to spread love everywhere we go! We can only control our own actions so we’d better be doing it wisely. I’m telling ya, Mother Theresa knew what she was talking about.
