Shower Bombs for Allergy Relief

These past few weeks I feel as though I’ve been dying a slow death. All the snow has melted and the snow mold is strong. With that my sinuses and allergies completed EXPLODED. I’ve been a heavy breathing, steady wheezing, snot nosed beauty as of late. Super attractive I’m telling you.

It makes things like getting a good nights sleep non existent. Mornings are hard enough as it is for me! Thankfully, I found some relief in these shower bombs. Infused with lavender, lemon & peppermint oil, they literally are the ‘bomb’.

Why those 3? Lavender & peppermint are natural analgesics which help with airborne allergies, among other things. Peppermint is also energizing, which after a brutal nights rest is very appreciated. Lemon is antiviral & helps fight colds and reduces fever while also being energizing. You can see what a power combo they are when inhaled!

These shower bombs are so easy to make and don’t require any fancy ingredients; unless you count essential oils as fancy.

You will need:

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 15 drops Lavender Oil
  • 15 drops Peppermint Oil
  • 10 drops Lemon Oil
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Silicone mold

Using a fork, mix your baking soda and cornstarch crushing any and all clumps. Measure out your water and add your oils directly to the water. Slowwwwwwly add your water to your baking soda/cornstarch mixture mixing continuously as you pour. Once the water is added, use your fork to combine it well, again crushing any and all clumps. If it looks too ‘grainy’ and not like it wants to stick add more water. I would suggest at 1/4 tsp increments. Such a little amount at a time sounds a bit ridiculous, but you definitely don’t want to overdo it. If you do you’ll end up with a science experiment gone wrong.

Press your mixture into your molds and set aside. You want to let them dry out before you store them. This way they won’t crumble everywhere. I let mine dry for 3-4 hours in the mold which is just enough time to allow them to set. Then I carefully pop them out of the mold and lay them on a plate to completely dry out. Let them dry for at least 12 hours (overnight). Your best bet is to allow them to dry for a full day. This allows them to dry completely and harden up a bit. Once the shower bombs are dried, I store them in a wide mouth mason jar.

The hardest part will be waiting for them dry out so that you can use them. The smell as you’re mixing them is A-MA-ZING! The combination of diffusing lavender while I sleep and using a shower bomb in the morning definitely helps combat the dreaded allergy season.

Do you use essential oils? What are some of your favourite oil combo’s?
