For the love of Kitchen Lighting

I’m so excited to share the new lighting above our island with you guys today! I’ve been wanting to switch out the lights throughout our home for some time now and started with Globe Electric 64846 1 Vintage Semi Flush Mount Light Fixture, Oil Rubbed Bronze Finish“>Globe Electrics Vintage Semi Flush Mount Light in our back entry almost a full year ago, look at me so on the ball with this, harhar!

The light that hangs over our island isn’t so bad, it’s just not my style and very often feels too chunky for the space. It gives off soft lighting in the evening and is fairly easy on the eyes throughout the day. My friend told me that there is something similar at Steel Lighting CO (https://www.steellightingco.com/) if you were interested in some inspiration for your own home. The scale of it though paired with the light in our dining area are just off. Big lights + small space = not always good. My friend told me that she loved using her smart home lighting to better balance the lighting in her room.

I love the vintage look that the Globe Electric line offers and loved that although it states vintage, it has just the right touch of modern to it as well. Nevermind the fact that I’m a sucker for Oil Rubbed Bronze… Our local Home Hardware carries the line so when I laid my eyes on this one ( see below) I knew it was the one for our home!

It’s the Globe Electric 64845 3 Vintage Hanging Pendant Light Fixture with Clear Glass Shades, Oil Rubbed Bronze Finish“>Globe Electric Vintage Pendant Light Fixture with the Oil Rubbed Bronze Finish. The heaven’s opened and it sang to me. Seriously. A quick search on Amazon when I got home unearthed the same light for a whopping $88.99! With my Prime membership, my shipping was free and guaranteed within 2 days. Not sure I’ve ever hit the purchase button so quickly in my life before. I couldn’t leave the office for lunch quick enough on the day it arrived. I was more than ready to switch this bad boy out. Nevermind the fact that I have a 2 year old climbing sensation who finds it a hoot to sit on the counter and watch it gently swing the curved beauty. She’s a wild child.

Take a good look!

Now you see it…

Now you don’t!

It took me longer to take down the old than it did putting up the new. There were a few choice swear words thrown about and lots of grumbling, but in the end I managed to make the switch without causing any damage or breaking any glass. Small victories! I am quite skilled at fitting lighting, but if you are planning on installing some new lights of your own and need an extra pair of hands, do not be afraid to reach out to a residential electrician for some help and support!

The oil rubbed bronze color ties in great with the little bit of black we have on the appliances and our chalkboard pantry door; it really helps anchor the space better. It feels so much brighter and not so clunky in the daylight. I had some Edison bulbs that I purchased awhile ago and tried them in the light initially, but I wasn’t a huge fan of how yellow the glow was. It looked great when they were off though! I stuck in our regular bulbs and it made a huge difference. I knew having the clear glass would make for a brighter feel than the frosted glass, but wow, it really brightened the room up when they were turned on. It is amazing how much a lighting fixture like this can change a room. If you have a room that feels dark or some lighting that you aren’t keen on, you might want to visit this website for some inspiration. Just like me, a change is exactly what you need!

I just love it, it feels so crisp and clean and simple. I like simple.

Yay for new lights! Now, time to find a suitable match for our dining room as THIS look….

isn’t really what I want to walk into my living space and see everyday! Cross your fingers that I manage to switch in up before another year goes by!
