Ellie’s Light & Airy Bedroom Makeover

I’m so excited to be sharing Ellie’s room with you guys today! It was a long labour of love due to my indecisiveness and the fact that I distract easily by other projects. So now that I have 371 projects on the go, I figured it’s about time some of them get finished. I can now cross number 184 (Ellie’s room) off the list. High fives all around!!

Awhile ago I made a mood board to help give me some idea’s on what I wanted to do with her room. Although I strayed a bit from my original idea, I managed to pull off the light and airy feel that I was ultimately aiming for.

When we brought Ellie home, it was to an unfinished nursery with green walls. Within days we had painted the walls double bubble pink. It was a shotgun decision to say the least. We were just so excited to have a little girl in the family that we were walking a blind tunnel vision of pink. Not our best paint choice, but it managed to stay for 2 years!

My first obstacle was choosing a paint color. It probably would have been easier to use something like peel and stick wallpaper to decorate that room. Anyway, I brought home what felt like 100 different samples, all lighter toned colors. I taped them to the wall and then let them sit there for a couple of weeks. None of them really spoke to me though.

Despite being clueless about what color I wanted, I went to the paint store anyway determined not to leave without a gallon of whatever. Within 2 minutes of looking at all the paint chips, I had one chosen. Actually no, it chose me. Not even kidding. The color is called Violet Pearl by Beauti Tone. As soon as my roller hit the wall, it was instant gratification!

This is what a ‘during’ photo, taken at midnight with your iPhone looks like.

Enough of the before though, let’s check out the after!

Do you love it?! It has such an airy and relaxing vibe to it now. I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out and the only thing left to do now is to get some new Window shutters put up. The current shutters are old and a bit grubby, so once this is done the new room will be complete!

We kept her existing dresser which may get a paint job down the line. I’m really on the fence about it though, so for now it stays as-is. My grandma found the nightstand at a garage sale quite awhile ago and passed it along to me. A high gloss white paint and some dotted mint tissue paper gave it some new life. The headboard is a part of her crib and underwent a makeover itself. 4 coats of paint in a color called Aloe did the trick. It’s such a beauty color!

I’m still on the hunt for a custom light fixture and area rug to throw down, but otherwise, we are finished up! Ellie’s reaction included a small gasp and a “Wow Mommy!” so I think it’s safe to say that it’s 2 year old approved and 100% successful. She does occasionally creep into our bed, however it is very rare now! However, we are fortunate enough to have a king size mattress in our room, so she can still squeeze in with us!

I had my fingers crossed for a ceramic owl lamp, but Ellie ultimately won and chose this simple silver lamp with minimal beading and a fabric shade. I think she made the right call!

Yes, there is a stock photo in a frame…don’t judge.

By keeping the majority of the frames white, I was able to mix in a variety of other colors. The melon color works seamlessly with the gold, shades of mint and light wood tones on the walls. We took the lace in the embroidery hoops from my grandma’s house when we moved her into a home and I love that we were able to incorporate it into Ellie’s room.

A bench or little desk can be added to the room at any point for her to enjoy but what I love most is that it’s a room that can grow with her.

Til next time!

Don’t forget to Pin it for later!

Dude, I’m pretty sure I started this a year ago. I’m a great starter, lousy finisher!
