DIY Tribal Art

Our gallery walls are going through a sloooooooow transition. I’m still trying to maintain the gallery style but I want to incorporate more art and decor amongst all the frames. It can get pretty costly if you go out and buy new decor to put up, so my goal is to incorporate pieces I can make with items already on hand. This is where being a craft supply hoarder comes in handy!

I stained this wooden “Painter’s Canvas” (as quoted on the Dollarama packaging) with 2 coats of Provencial Stain by Minwax. It’s just slightly larger than a 5×7 picture frame.

I opted to use some Chevron shaped wood veneers that I had hidden in a stash of other wood veneers (people collect those, right?). Once the “canvas” was dried I played around with my Chevron veneers until I found a pattern that I liked. Using wood glue I glued them in place. I ended up using some white craft paint and brushing the top of each one because I wasn’t completely sold on the wood veneer look.

To give it a more finished look I put a straight edge down and ran my brush the length of it, creating a border. Pretty simple, hey?

Right now it’s resting on a side table in our living room until I find the perfect spot on the wall for it!

Have you made anything fun lately?!

So simple but so cute! I love this tribal art, it would look great on our gallery wall too.

Thanks Emily! I’m always amazed what can be made when I actually take the time to go through my crafting supplies!

Very nice! I love this new and popular pattern. And what a great way to make one without spending a ton of money.
